HOPE's Children's Program: the purpose of this program is to teach children non-violent ways to solve problems and educate them about the dynamics of domestic violence.

Effects of Domestic Violence on Children

Children know what's going on,

even if you don't think they do.

They see it, hear it, feel it and sense it.

Preschoolers

Withdrawn

Fearful, anxiety

Temper tantrums

Aggressive with others

Nightmares, bedwetting

Delays in verbal development

Stomach aches

School Age

Nightmares

Poor grades or failure

Difficulty making friends

Violent outbursts of anger

Bullying, bossy

Withdrawn, clingy

Teenagers

Withdrawn

Few friends

Low self-esteem

Poor judgment

Poor grades, quit school

Irresponsible decision making

Runaway behavior

Nightmares

Not getting involved won't make the violence disappear. Staying in denial robs the children of their childhood and steals their trust. We owe it to the children to face the truth and break the cycle. Without help, who will these children grow up to be?
