Domestic violence occurs in relationships when one person establishes a pattern of behavior that uses power and control over his or her partner through fear and intimidation.

 

Emotional Abuse

Constantly criticizing, ridiculing, humiliating, degrading, lying, accusing, undermining self-esteem.

 

Threats & Intimidation

Threatening to harm partner, self, children, family, friends, or pets; threatening to make reports to authorities that jeopardize child custody, immigration of legal status.

 

Physical Abuse

Hitting, strangling, slapping, burning, shoving, using weapons, physically restraining, etc.

 

Isolation

Controlling or stealing money, fostering dependency, making financial decisions without asking or telling partner, withholding financial resources.

 

Stalking / Harassing Behavior

Following person at home or work, parking outside, repeated calls or mail to victim.
